ACTS Webinar Series

It’s not always possible to leave the office to participate in shared learning experiences, no matter how valuable. So we’re bringing the experiences to you!
ACTS runs an ongoing series of webinars each year, focusing on different sustainability initiatives and issues. Each session runs between 45 minutes to an hour, and provides those who connect (in the comfort of their own office space!) with professional development opportunities, as well as the ability to to ask questions and share their own learnings with colleagues throughout the sector. Webinar sessions are available free or for a discounted rate for all staff and students of ACTS members.
Please note: you may need to be logged into your ACTS User Account in order to register for certain webinar sessions. Can’t remember your login details? Use your email address to get your details here

Mapping university contributions to the UN Sustainable Development Goals: A how-to-guide

1 May 2017, 1pm -2pm AEST

Universities have a critical role in helping the world achieve the new UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through their research, teaching, operations and community leadership.

Many universities are already working to strengthen their contribution to the SDGs. A key first step in this process is to map how existing university activities – such as research expertise, courses and institutional policies – align with and contribute to the SDGs.

Whilst the mapping concept is simple, the execution can be complex.

This webinar, co-hosted by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) Australia/Pacific and the Australasian Campuses Towards Sustainability (ACTS), aims to help universities get started with this process.

Please join us to hear from a panel of experts who have carried out SDG mapping in their own universities. Drawing on their experiences and learnings in undertaking the mapping, the panel will discuss the range of approaches available, their benefits and uses, and practical guidance and tips on how to carry them out.

Speakers will include:
– Tahl Keston, Network Manager, SDSN Australia/Pacific
– Leah Dudley , Macquarie University
– Dr Susan Pepper, Monash University
– Andrew Wilks, Victoria University of Wellington

Multi-University Education for Sustainability study

[Learning, Teaching & Research]

14 June 2017, 1pm -2pm AEST

Liz Sidiropoulos will present the main findings of a multi-university Education for Sustainability (EfS) study conducted during 2013-2015 that investigated the influences on tertiary students’ current knowledge, attitudes and behaviours towards sustainability and the impact of sustainability education. The international study featured a range of institutions with varying contexts and approaches to EfS.  Results will be presented for both cross sectional and longitudinal analyses.

Liz is currently a PhD candidate at Victoria University and is investigating the contribution of tertiary education to student learning for sustainability. The multi-university study is now part of the PhD and was conducted while Liz was an academic at CQUniversity (Melbourne) where she spent over a decade actively teaching, researching and advocating the inclusion of sustainability in the curriculum, campus operations, research programmes and community engagement.
