Adopting a whole of institution approach to EfS
Cheryl Desha, Queensland University of Technology
Charlie Hargroves, University of Adelaide
Session Duration: 90min
Educators around the work are grappling with how to embed sustainability knowledge and skills within the curriculum. Furthermore, curriculum literature indicates that many efforts to do so are short-lived. Not only do educators become fatigues and discouraged with institutional bureaucracy, as educators leave a course or a program, the sustainability content often disappears, resulting in a varied and ad hoc learning experience for students. In this highly interactive session, the presenters will acknowledge this lack of progress to date, highlight the need for a structured and systemic approach to curriculum renewal and facilitate a discussion on a whole of organisation approach to embedding sustainability within the institution’s curriculum, as core business, describing the various organisational streams and opportunities for building the case for change using the sustainability helix model.
