Advocating for Community Gardens on Campus
Bianca Jewell, Monash University
Session Duration: 45min
At the end of 2010, the students of the Monash University Permaculture Group were given the opportunity to develop an urban community farm on campus at Monash University, Clayton. Gaining the university’s approval was a multi-step process, involving a lot of planning, negotiation and patience.
Presenting our community farm project as a case study, this session will focus on processes involved in setting up (or expanding) a food production project on your campus, including engagement approach, permaculture principles, a cooperative model linking producers directly with local consumers and why such projects are valuable in terms of sustainability and education.
