Greening University ICT
Samuel Fernandes, ANU
Session Duration: 45min
The digitalisation of organisation has created an energy intensive, and therefore potentially a carbon intensive infrastructure. Not only is there the direct consumption of information and communications technology (ICT), from data centres to desktops, and associated peripherals and portable hardware, there is also the demand for indirect energy, generated by the need to address the heat loads created by machines large and small.
At the heart of the session is an ANU case study of a project to identify the carbon profile of its ICT infrastructure and opportunities to establish a more environmentally sustainable approach to information and communications within organisation is just as much about reconciling the needs of IT managers, facilities managers and others as it is about the technology itself.
