The What, Why and How of University Green Loan Funds

Jen Dollin, University of Western Sydney
Helen Angelakis, University of Western Sydney
Edward Maher, Charles Sturt University

Session Duration: 90min

Green Loan Funds provide up-front finance to university staff and students to fund projects which aim to reduce environmental impacts, facilitate sustainable design and sustainable behaviours. Such funds traditionally target energy efficiency, energy conservation, renewable energy, water conservation, waste and pollutant reduction and behavioural change projects. The schemes provide both staff and students with an opportunity to participate in projects that green their own learning environment. A number of Australian universities are now either offering or developing such schemes. This interactive session will provide the participants with the opportunity to learn how CSU and UWS have developed and delivered their Green Loan programs. Topics covered include how the concept was sold to executive, examples of successful projects and a discussion of the challenges in delivering and measuring the outcomes.
