ACTS, as a member of the Global Alliance of University and College Sustainability Networks, is calling on our members to contribute to the draft of an open letter that will be presented to COP21 Ministers in Paris on 7- 8 December 2015. Commit to supporting our members create more innovative academic pathways for already passionate and determined students and staff to be vital actors in efforts to envision and spur creative strategies, practices and attitudes for climate change solutions, especially as future leaders and next generation of policy makers. We call on national Governments to support us embed climate and education for sustainable development into teaching, operations, and quality standards.
Celebrate the unique role of our tertiary education members in leading the research and understanding of the origins and trajectory of climate change, in gauging its consequences and designing reduction mitigation and adaptation solutions. We invite COP21 to acknowledge and strengthen the key research and solutions role that our tertiary education members provide on climate change.
Believe that our tertiary education members are pioneers and demonstrators in modelling and piloting effective practices. We call on COP21 Ministers to strengthen, showcase and embed our responsibility to assess and report on our climate and wider sustainability organisational and teaching performance.
