The Net Zero Precinct is a core component of Monash’s Net Zero Initiative, a $135 million program aimed at achieving net zero emissions across its campuses by 2030. The initiative combines large-scale infrastructure investment, such as renewable energy, electrification and high-performance buildings, with research and education. At the Clayton campus, this includes:

  • A renewable energy microgrid integrating solar, battery storage and smart energy systems
  • Electrification of buildings and a transition away from fossil fuels
  • Deployment of energy-efficient technologies across campus

What were the major challenges and successes?
